Top Waiver Wire Adds for Week 4

Week 3 of Fantasy basketball is still underway and whether you are dominating your league or currently losing, it won’t hurt to plan early for the upcoming week. If you are looking for the top waiver wire options at fantasy basketball you’ve come to the right place. In this piece we will provide a list of free-agent players you need to target in Week 4. These suggestions are available in at least 50% of Yahoo fantasy basketball leagues.

  1. Jerami Grant (46% owned) – OKC has 4 games in the succeeding week including some quality games against NOR, CLE and HOU. The Thunder is on a 4 game winning streak and Grant started in all those games wherein he averaged 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 3-pointers while shooting 61.8% FG. He is currently ranked outside of top 100 because of his poor free-throw shooting 58.6%. But Jerami is playing on a high level lately and was even the top 5 9-category player of the Nov 2 NBA slate. He is currently available in 54% of Yahoo leagues. I will add him with confidence in week 4.
  2. Mitchell Robinson (16% owned) – Before the start of the season, Enes Kanter was the favorite to start at center in New York but things changed quickly. Coach David Fizdale seemed to find his starting center in the 7-foot shot-blocker and the 36th overall pick of the 2018 NBA draft. Robinson responded with a top 6 9-category performance vs the Dallas Mavericks in the Nov 2 NBA slate. According to coach Fizdale, Mitch is a “superior natural defender” and hinted that he maybe the starting center of the Knicks for the rest of the season. NYK also has 4 games in week 4 and while he is a nice stream for next week, he is also a good speculative add for ROS.
  3. Justin Holiday (43% owned) – CHI only has 3 games in week 4 but those are quality games against NYK, NOR and CLE. And with Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen still out, Justin will persistently carry most of the scoring load for the Bulls. He is currently ranked 44th in standard 9-category H2H and will be a good source of points and threes for fantasy owners in week 4 and until the regular starters come back.
  4. PJ Tucker (33% owned) – Tucker is a surprise top 50 player in standard 9-category H2H right now. He is the anchor of the Houston Rockets defense and he’s playing an average of 36.2 minutes per game. If you are punting points, he is actually a top 25 player with averages of 6.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 2.0 steals, 0.9 blocks and 2.0 3-pointers with just 0.7 turnovers. The 4 games next week include tough match ups against IND, OKC and SAS. But with assured minutes at forward position, I would still gladly stream Tucker if I could and enjoy his 3 and D stats.
  5. Kelly Olynyk (32% owned)– Olynyk started the last 4 games alongside Hassan Whiteside wherein he averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 threes. He is a top 81 player in standard 9-category H2H in that span and with the Miami Heat having 4 games in the upcoming week he could be a nice stream if he continues to earn minutes because some of the Heat players (e.g. James Johnson) are still out.
  6. Terrence Ross (5% owned) – ORL has 4 games next week with 2 quality games against CLE and NYK. Ross could be a good source of threes and steals when he is hot and if Jonathan Simmons (wrist) will be out and with the recent injury of Jonathan Isaac (ankle), more opportunities might open up for Terrence Ross. The 3 and D wing could be a hit or miss but with the Magic having 4 games each for the next 2 weeks, he could be a nice stream.

Below are some of the other possible free agents to consider in week 4:

With 4 games:

  1. Damyean Dotson (21% owned) – points and threes
  2. Jeremy Lin (5% owned) – points and FT%
  3. DeAndre Bembry (6% owned) – threes and steals

With 3 games:

  1. Boban Marjanovic (17% owned) – FG%, rebounds and blocks
  2. Garrett Temple (21% owned) – threes and steals
  3. Josh Okogie (11% owned) – rebounds and steals
  4. Shelvin Mack (3% owned) – points, threes and assists
  5. Antonio Blakeney (4% owned) – points and threes
  6. Sam Dekker (5% owned) – rebounds and steals
  7. Isaiah Canaan (2% owned) – threes

Stats are based on standard 9cat H2H. Please also take note that I made this article after the 8 game slate of November 2, 2018 NBA Sched.

Rookie Watch

I remember someone told me to avoid drafting rookies in Fantasy Leagues because they were always overrated. I certainly didn’t shy away from picking rookies in drafts but i assured myself that I won’t reach so I ended up not having any of the newcomers this year. In this article, we will look at some of the notable rookies of the 2018 NBA draft and their status in the ongoing 2018 Fantasy Basketball season. Let’s go.

1. Deandre Ayton – Y!Adp9=52, Current Rank=27 – Ayton is currently averaging 16.9 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 3.3 APG and just 1.4 TPG. He is not yet spectacular in defense 0.6 SPG and 0.6 BPG, but he is outstanding in percentages at 61.6% FG and 85.7% FT. Those who drafted Ayton in the 5th round should give themselves a pat on the back. The former Arizona Wildcat and the number 1 overall pick of the 2018 NBA draft is exceeding expectations and is currently crushing his ADP. He is absolutely a nice player to own in roto and a nice guy to draft in almost any kind of H2H team builds.

2. Luka Doncic – Y!Adp9=73, Current Rank=102 – The Don is averaging 19.6 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 4.4 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG and 2.8 3PG. Those are solid counting stats but he is barely outside top 100 right now due to his mediocre 45.8% FG, 71.4% FT and massive turnover rate of 4.0 TPG. His FG% might really just be in 44-45% range and FT could be in 75% at the end of the season but he may learn to take care of the ball more which maybe just enough to put the 19 year old Slovenian sensation and former Euroleague MVP to top 80.

3. Trae Young – Y!Adp9=98, Current Rank=127 – If you drafted Trae in your fantasy basketball team, you should have probably prepared yourselves about his low 42.9 FG% and high turnover rate of 3.0 TPG. He is averaging a very useful 19.0 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 6.6 APG and 2.3 3PG. If only the baby-faced assassin can improve his steals rate of 0.6 SPG, it will certainly help his rankings because he is capable of putting up top 100 stats.

4. Jaren Jackson Jr. – Y!Adp9=96, Current Rank=97 – The recent injury to Jamychal Green somewhat accelerated the development of the number 4 overall pick of the 2018 NBA draft. He is averaging 11.5 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.3 APG, 1.2 SPG and 1.0 BPG in just 22.6 MPG. He is one of the few big men who helps in blocks but won’t hurt you in free throws, 81.0% FT. Don’t mind his stats in the last 2 games. His minutes were only limited due to foul trouble. He is certainly a nice big man to own in fantasy basketball this year and it started early.

5. Wendell Carter Jr. – Y!Adp9=91, Current Rank=118 – In the first 5 games, the shot-block specialist is averaging 5.5 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.0 SPG, 1.8 BPG and a measly 43.6% FG and 71.4% FT. But in his last 3 games, he averaged 17.6 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.33 SPG and 1.67 BPG while shooting 47% FG and 87.6% FT. He is also the top 3 9-category player in the last October 31 NBA slate. The former Duke Blue Devil and the number 7 overall pick of the 2018 NBA draft is oozing with confidence right now and he is getting the minutes already. He is probably not available on your waiver wire anymore. Congrats to those who were able to snag him in either re-draft or dynasty leagues.

Alright folks, those are some of the remarkable NBA rookies of the 2018 Fantasy Basketball season. In case you wanna know where are the other rookies, Marvin Bagley III is currently ranked 169th, Mohamed Bamba is 144th, and Collin Sexton is ranked 236th.

Stats are based on standard 9cat H2H. Please also take note that I made this article after the 7 game slate of October 31, 2018 NBA Sched.

Hey fellow fantasy basketball fanatics, did you draft Javale Mcgee? Did you pick Josh Hart with your late-round flyer? Did you gamble with Montrezl Harrell? In this piece, we will look at the status of the players who you might overlooked during your drafts. We will randomly choose players who are outside top 100 of Yahoo ADP. Here we go.

1. Javale Mcgee: Y!Adp9=110, Current Rank=23 – The journeyman Javale Mcgee is having a nice year with the Lakers. He is averaging 15.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and a massive 3.0 BPG while shooting 64.1% FG. The former warrior bench is currently the best center in the Lakers lineup. In one of my fantasy basketball leagues, Mcgee was autopicked and the manager was disappointed that time. I’m very sure he is delighted right now.

2. Montrezl Harrell: Y!Adp9=143, Current Rank=26 – Montrezl Harrell is outplaying Marcin Gortat. In the last 3 games, Harrell is averaging 19.67 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 1.67 SPG, 2.33 BPG and a whopping 74.8% FG. He had a slow start, and we even saw Boban Marjanovic being used more in some early games but small-ball and quick opponents exposed Boban’s weakness. Harrell isn’t gonna give up his backup center role to Boban anytime soon and Montrezl might even takeover as the starting center.

3. Danny Green: Y!Adp9=136, Current Rank: 34 – Last year, Danny Green finished with a rank of 122 in 9cat H2H. This year, he had an amazing start and the 3 and D wing of the Raptors is averaging 11.2 PPG, 3.0 3PG, 1.0 SPG and 1.2 BPG. He looks very confident out there playing with Kawhi and the Raptors and is currently shooting 44% FG. Seems like a resurgence year for Danny Green.

4. Josh Hart: Y!Adp9=131, Current Rank: 69 – The 2018 Summer League MVP is playing very well and is averaging 14.5 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.3 APG, 2.0 SPG and 2.5 3PG. He continues to impress and was currently promoted to the starting lineup because of the recent slump of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Hart is having a top 70 value right now and he is poised to have a nice year in fantasy as the starting SG of the Lakers.

5. Caris Levert: Y!Adp9=133, Current Rank: 56 – The former 2016 20th overall pick is having an amazing start and posting averages of 21.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 4.0 APG, 1.0 3PG while shooting 52.0% FG and 84.6% FT. The defensive stats are still not there, 0.8 SPG and 0.4 BPG, and TOs are awful at 3.0 TPG but he has certainly outplayed his ADP and he’s not showing signs of slowing down even after the return of Allen Crabbe and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

That’s it. These are the guys who are currently performing well and outplaying their Yahoo ADPs. You might check them out in your leagues and see if they are still available or you might want to offer them to other managers and sell high. Stats are based on standard 9cat H2H. Please also take note that I made this article after the 9 game slate of October 27, 2018 NBA Sched.

Where are the stars?

As soon as I published my first article here, I showed it to my girlfriend and she (being a huge LBJ fan) quickly noticed and asked me, “Where is Lebron? Why is he not in top 5?” I got curious myself and look for Lebron’s ranking. And now i thought of writing this piece to show you guys where are your favorite players in the fantasy basketball rankings this early. I will exclude Anthony Davis, Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Nikola Jokic here because we already know they are in top 5 (from the previous post) . Let’s get it on.

  1. Karl Anthony Towns – Projection: 2nd, Current Rank: 26th. Slow start for KAT. He is just averaging 17.0 Pts and 9.3 Rebs after 4 games, way below his projected 24.3 Pts and 13.2 Rebs a game. In his 1st 2 games, his usage rates are below 20.0 but he bounced back in the last 2 and averaged 23.15. I still feel this is pretty low for a fantasy stud but at least some good news for the fantasy owners.
  2. James Harden – Projection: 3rd, Current Rank: 7th. The Beard is ballin’. He isn’t even shooting nice FT% this early at just 76% at 8.3 FTA/g. He could be in top 5 if he does that. A wonderful fantasy year again is in store for The Beard.
  3. Kawhi Leonard – Projection: 4th, Current Rank: 27th. The Claw is outside the top 20 mainly because he is still feeling rusty. He’s just averaging 45.9% FG for at least 20 FGA/g. He was also rested during their 3rd game and that didn’t help his ranking either. He hasn’t blocked a shot yet. FG% and defensive stats are supposedly his known strengths and let’s all be patient with Kawhi because if he stays healthy, he can be one of the biggest draft steals in this year’s fantasy.
  4. Damian Lillard – Projection: 5th, Current Rank: 15th. Projecting Dame Dolla at 5th is pretty optimistic but we are all aware that he is capable of producing 1st round stats. His current ranking right now is a very good start. He is averaging 28.7 Pts, 2.3 3PM, 5.3 Rebs, 7.0 Asts a whopping 93.5 FT% and just 2.7 TOs. His current Y!ADP for 9cat at 10th is still fine for me.
  5. Giannis Antetokounmpo – Projection: 6th, Current Rank: 89th. The Greek Freak is averaging 27.3 Pts, 16.0 Rebs and 5.7 Asts. That is pretty awesome right? But wait, he is also averaging just 0.3 3PM, 0.7 Stls and a huge 5.7 TOs a game. That won’t make him in top 10. He is young. He’s the franchise player of the Bucks and we all know his capabilities. It’s pretty early and my advise is to be patient with the Freak.
  6. Kevin Durant – Projection: 9th, Current Rank: 18th. Durantula is fine. He is averaging 26.8 Pts, 8.0 Rebs, 5.8 Asts, 1.0 Stl and a very good 92.9 FT%. The 3s and Blks are still not there, 0.8 3PM & 0.8 Blks. The Chef and KD are gonna have to share the ball, and it looks like Curry is winning at the start. But as what we mentioned in the previous article, those KD owners should not despair.
  7. Lebron James – Projection: 14th, Current Rank: 31st. The King must be feeling the pressure. He’s down 0-3 now and outside top 30. He’s counting stats are actually close to his projections, 27.3 Pts, 1.0 3PM, 8.3 Rebs, 8.3 Asts, 1.3 Stls and 0.7 Blks. But he is just shooting 46% FG. He is surrounded by a bunch of young guys and he knows he’s gonna carry the Lakers again just like how he carried the Cavs before. It will be just a matter of time until the lakers will notch their first win and let’s see if it might be the start of Lebron’s climbing up of the Fantasy Rankings ladder once again.

That’s it.  You now know where are your favorite 1st rounders are currently ranked. I only included here the projected Top 10. Just in case you wanna know the rankings of the other stars, Paul George is currently ranked 42ndChris Paul is ranked 14th and Joel Embiid is ranked 6th. Please also take note that I made this article before the 11 game slate today (October 24, 2018 NBA Sched).

Top 5 Players in Fantasy Basketball

Here are the top 5 players in standard 9cat H2H Fantasy Basketball:

  1. Anthony Davis – He’s still the number 1 player in Fantasy Basketball for me. Not Giannis nor Harden. But AD it is. Damn, i don’t have him in any of my rosters this season. His weakest cat is 3PM but he is averaging at least 1.0 after 3 games. Wow! I hope he stays healthy again this year.
  2. Jimmy Butler – After 3 games he showed he’s the number 1 player in Minnesota. He may be traded and that may change his value. But while he’s still in Wolves uniform you may savor the moment and enjoy his stats. His weakest stat is 3PM making him a very nice fit in punt 3s.
  3. Nikola Jokic – The Joker is tremendous at the start of the season. He even made history against the Suns last October 20 by posting 35-12-11 stats on perfect FG%. Well, of course that is the Suns but Jokic is really good and can really put up double-doubles and triple- doubles. He may have a nice year again and congrats to those who drafted him late in the first round.
  4. Stephen Curry – The Chef started his season very strong. He’s averaging an astounding 30.5 Pts, 5.5 3PM, 5.0 Rebs, 7.8 Asts, 1.3 Stls in 53% FG & 83% FT.  Kevin Durant is just ranked 18th this early. If you drafted KD ahead of Curry, don’t despair. But if you had Curry on your team, good job especially if you got him at a discounted price.
  5. Kyle Lowry – 4-0 for the Raptors. Yes, they are the number 1 team in the east right now. Thanks to Lowry’s amazing stats of 3.8 3PM, 10.0 Asts, and 60% FG shooting. That FG% is unsustainable but he may have a nice year facilitating in offense knowing he has Kawhi in his side. So much drama during pre-season about his anger with management. Probably, this pumped him up leading to a strong start this year.

Here you go guys, these are currently the top 5 players in Fantasy Basketball. Please note that i based this one in standard 9cat H2H. The rankings change of course in other setup. For example, in punt blocks, Stephen Curry is currently Top 1. In 8cat H2H (without TOs), James Harden is ranked #2.
